Servicing Information
Most modern cars now have a “Long Life”
service interval and may only need a service once a
year, but older cars require a service more regularly,
sometimes as often as once every six months.
Modern oils last longer as do electrical components
used within the ignition, charging and lighting systems.
The result being fewer visits for service but slightly
longer service times due to the ever growing number
of checks carried out.
The manufacturer's service hand book will set out what
is best for your car.
Our servicing is carried out to an Industry Standard
as a minimum.
At the time Block Exemption
was introduced in October 2002, we designed a checklist
to be used by ourselves. The checklist was designed
with the help of a friend in a main dealership and a
friend who was an employee of a large independent lubricants
company that we had dealt with for around 10 years.
The lubricant company supplied specialist flushes to
which we used when servicing customers vehicles.
The original checklist designed by us required some
modifications. Our friend at the lubricants company
also thought it would be a useful tool for him to offer
as an incentive to encourage trade only customers to
purchase and use his products. The flushes could not
be bought via any retail outlets and at that time, the
company operated a strict trade only policy.
We where informed that it would also have to comply
with the OFT (Office of Fair Trading). Our friend made
some small modifications and the service checklist was
then used by lots of independent garages in the North
West Region.
The checklist was supplied free by the lubricants company
who formed a network of independent garages all working
to a minimum standard and using their specialist flushes.
This gave independents the ability to compete on level
terms with main dealer servicing.
More importantly, customers had another option when
considering where to have their vehicles serviced.
We also use information provided by vehicle manufacturers.
This informs us of vehicle specific checks to be carried
out during a service. These checks are usually mileage
related and are included with the Industry Standard
Minimum Requirements in your service.
The type of service you need will also be affected
by how you use your car. For example, lots of short
journeys where the engine does not have a chance to
warm up properly. This will probably mean your vehicle
will require oil and filter changes more frequently.
We also include specialist flushes in our services.
These help to clean the inside of you vehicles engine
before new clean oil is added. This results in your
new oil lasting longer. As the old saying goes; “why
wear new socks with holes in your shoes”.
We also use specialist flushes for cleaning the fuel
systems on petrol and diesel vehicles. These help to
keep the fuel system clean and ultimately can help to
improve fuel consumption when used regularly.
Repairs
If you have a fault other than a service item explain
the problem to us in as much detail as you can.
If you can, inform us when the problem occurs, for
example, only when engine is cold, or after the vehicle
has been left standing.
In all cases we will do everything we can to help you
resolve the problem.
Parts
On some occasions rather than replacing parts that
are not fully worn out, we will advise you when they
will probably need replacing, based on the way you use
your car.
Service lights are also re-set maintaining your vehicles
on board service schedule.
